It is hard to believe that we just celebrated our 5-year wedding anniversary…. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around how much time has passed, and how much our lives have changed since that summer day when we stood under the live oaks in Southport and said our vows. In many ways, we are still the same… two kids who fell in love and still haven’t grown up, two very different humans who embrace their imperfections and find the greatest joy in each other’s company. We try to talk about our dreams daily, and celebrate when we meet a goal or discover a new restaurant that opens the door to a new epicurean adventure. In fact, our love of good and interesting food led us on this little getaway to Charleston, SC. We had been before, but never for more than a few hours, so we decided take a few days this time in order to visit several new restaurants, as well as a few of our old favorites.  It was an incredible trip, and we took in as many sights and tastes as our eyes and stomachs would allow. Even though we had a wonderful time, my heart still hurt immensely for this beautiful city… as we were visiting, 9 phenomenal lives were being remembered. Our visit to the church forever left an imprint on my heart, and when I am lost in my brokenness and too stubborn to forgive another, my mind will forever take me back to the steps of Emanuel AME Church, where I felt the love and forgiveness of God in an unforgettable way.

My dear Joshua, my love for you grows deeper with every passing day. Here’s to the rest of our lives… may we always dream of new places to discover, new food to savor, and wherever we go, may we always journey hand-in-hand.
